At my barn, we all seem to have the same gear. It isn’t uncommon to accidentally walk off with someone else’s helmet or boot bag because at least 2 other people have the same one. This was what inspired me to get the fox themed products by Centaur, so unique and hard to miss!
I love the saddle pad, the embroidery is clean and the quilting is thick and secure. The saddle pad is very firm, and by that I mean it really holds its shape. It isn’t floppy and flimsy like some saddle pad, it truly maintains its form. The one thing I can say about my first impression of this pad is how much more orange it is in real life than in the photos. In the product photos, it appears to be a more creamy, rusty kind of orange but in reality, it is quite bright and quite contrasted with the black.
The helmet bag is huge! Maybe it was meant for someone who has a large head to fill it out but I’m not one of them! Again, embroidery is clean and stitching is secure. No extra padding but it has a nice pocket on the side which is always handy and 2 zippers.
I love having a unique boot bag, and this one is for sure. It is pretty tall, wide, has 2 zippers and clean embroidery. It does not have any sort of padding or plastic bottom/feet.
It is huge! Though I would imagine that is a good because if you have extra clothing you would like to protect, you are not limited to one jacket. Clean embroidery, 2 zippers, D ring to hang things as well as a plastic cover with slot for hanger.
Fit and Feel
I love this saddle pad, I have been using it for a couple years and it is still as perfect as the day I got it. None of the stitching or embroidery has come out, and it comes out clean in the wash. It sits nicely on the wither, not pressing flat against it. After all the rides and washing machine cycles it still holds the perfect form like day one.
The one flaw I can say with this pad has is that the keepers are almost too short. When paired with a half pad, the saddle pad keepers will not close which isn’t a big deal but it is annoying.
It does get dirty very easily, and I feel that the sweat and dirt can really cake on inside. Maybe it is just more noticeable because of the black, but I do find I need to wash it more frequently than my other pads. Horsehair does not embed itself into the pad as much as others I have had, but sticky sweat and dirt definitely will build up quickly.
This helmet bag is really big. My helmet does swim around in it but it does have it perks for extra storage. I put my DSB boots and Horse Holster in there and it all fits together quite snug with a helmet. Machine washes great, embroidery and threading still in place.
There is no extra padding in the helmet bag, it is basically a shell. I have had issues with the zippers, as in that ill be doing one up and then they split. This has been easily fixed, but I do think that a better zipper should have been put in.
Again, like the helmet bag, this boot bag is huge. Very wide and tall, and no extra padding. I keep my valuable Mountain Horse Boots in this boot bag specifically because the bag is unique and cannot be misidentified.
The boot bag is basically a shell, and because my boots are precious to me, I have them double bagged. One bag is the thin Mountain Horse boot bag that the boots came with, which the boots are placed inside of and then stored into the Centaur Bag. The boot does not have any dividers seperating the
It is very machine washable, I have not had any issues with the embroidery but I have had issues with the threading. Within the first two times of using the bag, one of my straps came undone. It was an easy fix, but it was an inconvenience especially for a brand new product. Something I really wish the bag had was a plastic bottom, or plastic feed to keep it upright and away from moisture. It is purely just lightly padded fabric with a zipper in the shape of a pair of boots.
This is the one product I can say that I have not extensively used except that is has held my show clothes in my closet. It is very wide, as wide as my door frame. Like its other counterparts it does not have a lot of padding, but for its purpose, I think that that is okay.
The zipper does feel weak as it does on the helmet bag and boot bag. I do really like the plastic cover for a coat hanger as well as the D ring strap for hanging. It is good quality with great embroidery and I haven’t experienced any issues.
I really do love this line. It is cute, unique and generally made of good quality. My biggest gripe with the brand is the lack of thought put into it, an example being the boot bag. The boot bag could be exponentially better if it just had those little details to make it more durable and protective. If you are looking for gear that will secure and cushion your product, then this is not for you. That being said, the Centaur Fox Saddle Pad is definitely one of my favourite saddle pads and I love it dearly.
Centaur does have a lot of fun themes to their product, like turtles and hearts and flowers. This fox pad does come in a silver fox design, but the style is not available in any other products but the pad.
If you like having matching products, want something fun and unique this is a great line to look at.
Always get back on,
