With show season at its prime, I came across this fun, Twinkle Toes Ultra Fine Glitter Hoof Polish product at my favorite tack store, The Lil Red Pony Feed & Supplies. I had the choice to choose between pink glitter or rainbow stars and sparkles; it was a hard choice but I think I made the right one to suit my pony!
This is a really fun product, and something I immediately wanted to try. While the bottle is smaller than I expected, user reviews I read indicated you don’t use as much product as you would expect.
The colour I chose did not disappoint. You could clearly see all the purple and blue flecks highlighted by silver stars.
Fit and Feel
I only painted her front feet. Prior to applying the polish, I cleaned off her feet and dried them prior to use. I then got her to stretch out her leg to put her foot on a block, which made it easier to apply without rocks or dirt getting in the way.
The applicator is a classic shoe polish brush and was easy to apply to the hooves. Not oily like a hoof polish, it does need to brushed in evenly across the hooves, as you would do with human nail polish.
I did 2 coats as the bottle instructed, plus then a bit of spot jobs where the sparkle was less even. I used roughly a quarter of a bottle on 2 hooves, but I will probably use less on the next application. It was hard to get an even application right at the toe, so it did rub off whenever she got her toe in the gravel. My little horse didn’t have the patience to keep her foot on a block long enough for total drying!
I think the results were great! Such a fun touch.
As for wear and tear, its like any nail polish, it does start to deteriorate after the first day. Which is understandable considering they are walking in dirt which would slowly sand the product away. Here is a photo of the product application on the first day, and here is a photo of it 4 days later.
The only negative thing I can say about this polish is that on the bottle it says that the polish repels dirt. It definitely does not and I don’t know how it could. If they are standing in dirt or mud or dust, it just sticks to their feet no matter if a product was on or not. I might be misinterpreting that information, and I would be curious on how it does repel dirt.
I think that Twinkle Toes Hoof Polish is an awesome product. While it may not, and I don’t believe it is intended to be, for long term wear, it is a great way to add some extra flare to a show or to your day. It comes in a variety of colours and designs, so there are many options to choose from. I purchased it from my local tack store for $20.00 CAD. I am sure it can be found at a comparable price elsewhere. Their website has a lot of other glitter options for mane, tail, hoof and body. Definitely worth checking out!
Always get back on,
